This blog post was originally posted on May 4, 2015, and was updated on May 6, 2019.

Barcelona may as well be synonymous with good times and good vibes. And with plenty of Spanish sun and a prime location right on the Mediterranean, the city is at its best as summer arrives. Whether your agenda includes attending one of the world’s most iconic festivals or simply spending as much time at the beach as possible, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy Barcelona in June. Here’s what to expect in one of the best months of the year.

If fun in the sun is on your agenda, you definitely need to visit Barcelona in June. The forecast is excellent all around—perfect for days spent sightseeing and evenings enjoying the views from rooftop bars (more on that in a bit). Here’s a quick look at what you can expect.

Now it’s on to the fun part—here’s what to do in Barcelona in June.

Don’t expect to get much sleep on the night of June 23. As part of the ongoing summer solstice celebrations, revelers throughout the city will take to the streets that evening for a night full of fireworks, bonfires, and partying until dawn. Known as la nit de Sant Joan, or St. John’s Eve, the event takes its name from the fact that it’s celebrated the night before the feast day of St. John the Baptist, and it’s one of the biggest events taking place in Barcelona in June.

Our advice: don’t even try to sleep—instead, head out and join the festivities on the beach. Get there right as the sun is going down and you’ll be ready for a summer evening full of fire and magic.

Date: June 23

We’ll let you in on a little secret: you don’t have to be a guest at many of the hotels in Barcelona that offer public access to their impressive rooftops. After spending a day sightseeing (or, if we’re being honest, hanging out at the beach), there’s nothing quite like taking in the views from one of the best rooftops in Barcelona, drink in hand, surrounded by good friends. While drink prices at these spots tend to be on the steep side, it’s worth it for the luxurious experience and unforgettable atmosphere.

Barcelona in June is a music lover’s dream come true. Sure, you’ve got the tail end of Primavera Sound, one of the world’s most legendary festivals that draws some of the biggest names in music year after year.

But if you couldn’t score tickets to that, no worries. The Festival Jardins Pedralbes is one of Barcelona’s best-kept secrets, and tickets are just a fraction of the price as those for the better-known festivals. With performances ranging from exquisite dance showcases to concerts by household names (Mariah Carey and the Beach Boys are just two of the artists already confirmed for 2019), along with a setting in one of the most gorgeous gardens in Barcelona, there’s no better way to spend a summer evening.

2019 dates: June 5–July 15

Yes, you read that right. One of the quirkiest things to see in Barcelona in June is “l’ou com balla,” or the egg that dances. Actually, there are multiple dancing eggs, and you’ll be able to find them all over Barcelona. Let us explain.

The event takes place during the Catholic feast of Corpus Christi (60 days after Easter), and the egg in question represents the Eucharist, or the body of Christ. It’s placed on top of the water that emerges from the fountain at the center of many church courtyards. Almost like magic, the egg not only maintains its position atop the gushing water, but “dances” as the water continues spurting out. It’s worth checking out just for the fountains alone, which often get decked out to the nines with plenty of colorful flowers and decorations.

2019 dates: June 20–23

Summer has officially arrived, and in our book, there’s no better place to be than the Catalan capital.
