This blog post was originally posted on January 21, 2015, and was updated on October 7, 2017.

Coffee culture in Spain is an interesting concept. It is such a huge part of daily life, yet there is little to be said about its quality. Sure, a café con leche can really hit the spot, but it would be a sad loss if the regular Spanish cup of joe were put up to compete with, say, its Italian counterpart.

A new wave of coffee culture has come over Barcelona, and coffee snobs couldn’t be more thrilled. So for something a little more special than the usual, check out these five spots for coffee connoisseurs in Barcelona.

The people at Satan’s Coffee Corner, a lovely little cafe in the Gothic, were some of the first in Barcelona’s recent coffee movement. Literally starting off in a tiny corner of a bike shop, they are finally proud to have their own spot, sans wifi and all. This is one of the best places to get coffee in Barcelona.

Address: Carrer de l’Arc de Sant Ramon de Call, 11

The only problem with Nømad being on one of the most charming streets in all of Barcelona is that it doesn’t open on weekends. The street, or passage, only opens mid-week. No worries, get there during the week to enjoy its serenity over a perfectly concocted cup of coffee.

Address: Passatge Sert, 12

On a very pleasant and sunny corner of Sant Antoni’s Parlament Street, find the incredibly successful Federal. A three-story airy cafe that not only takes pride in great coffee but also boasts some fantastic eats. Did someone say brunch?

Address: Carrer del Parlament, 39

From a sleek food truck to an airy warehouse, Skye Coffee is the perfect spot to soak up the ever-so-trendy Barcelona foodie scene. These people are at every food event the city has to offer, and they host some of their own as well.

Address: Carrer de Pamplona, 88

And here we save the best for last. Cafés el Magnifico, a classic and the true pioneer of good coffee in Barcelona, is a shop that takes their art very, very seriously. Here you can find some of the best beans in the world, as well as a small area to have a very well-prepared cappuccino. Hidden in the heart of El Born, grab a coffee to go and wander!

Address: Carrer de l’Argenteria, 64

This blog post was originally posted on January 21, 2015, and was updated on October 7, 2017.
